What is the maximum data transfer supported?
Can you please advise as to the maximum data rate supported? I am familiar using VARA and VARA chat as an emergency worker. That application provides a free version and a faster version with a paid license. Can you please compare? Thanks

The speed limit is driven by the VARA modem itself. You can find more information on VARA website but in a nutshell - the free VARA-HF version is limited to SL5 (Speel level 5) which is 177bps at 500Hz Bandwidth & 270bps at 2300Hz bandwidth.
Its ok for a chat with short messages, but if you are after long messages and file/image transfer - it is not enough. The max speed with 500Hz is 1543bps at 500Hz and 7050bps at 2300Hz. But that max speed will require a super strong signal.
On a decent S8-9 reception - I would usuly see SL8-10 which is 500-800bps at 500Hz. I have attached a table of speeds of VARA-HF. You can find similar tables also for VARA-FM.
