VarAC V13.2.7 is here! With BBS, VarAC-Academy, Reactions (Likes), Multi services announcement, frequency scheduler auto

Well, well, well… VarAC v13.2 is here! And wow, we’ve got some seriously exciting updates to share with you. Ready? Let’s dive in.

📢 Introducing: BBS

Yes! finally! VarAC can now also serve as a BBS 🎉And, as always, we’ve kept it as simple as possible.

Just select a directory on your PC, and every file in it can be discovered and downloaded by other stations.

I have thought about the frequency scheduler, but as I understand it I would have to change it weekly to compensate for sunrise, and sunset times. I use 40 meters between sunset and sunrise, and 20 between sunrise and sunset, generally speaking.

Random Path Finder Replies

Periodically I will receive a Pathfinder Request that I don't recall asking for. I MAY have asked for it some time ago, but it must have been long ago because I don't remember asking for it.

What am I seeing with random pathfinder requests? (Poor memory :-)

Thanks

Could you provide a screenshot so we can see what you are talking about? It could be another station asking for one and your station replying. But without an example it is all guess work on this side.

Fading Receive???

I am running a FT-710 with the latest versions of VarAC and VARA HF.

If I monitor the audio input on VARA HF it idles at about -50dB. when I am in a QSO with a known station, I am seeing his signal on the waterfall with a S7 on the VU meter.

However, on VARA HF the audio input goes up to half way in the green, then fades back to -50 while I still see him transmitting on the waterfall with an S7.

I bumped the USB audio out under PSK from 50 to 75 but with the slot sniffer it showed all slots as being busy. So I backed it down to 60. Started a new QSO and the audio in on the VARA HF is still doing the same fade. I checked the audio settings in the PC and nothing has changed.

Suggestions about what is…

The mystery is solved. If you are running an FT-710. I have had this radio for quite a while. At night I would just walk away. Last week I did an complete shack renovation which includes turning everything off. I turned off the radio last night. This morning I turned it on and the AGC turned back on when the radio started up. So if you turn off your radio, check your AGC when you turn the 710 back on.

Undocumented feature of VarAC 13.2.7

There may be a bug in this version. I had the VarAC open, in idle mode, beaming every 15 minutes. No special settings line "unattended" etc. I left the shack for a while. When I came back I found that I was connected to a station from Belgium, AUTOMAGICALLY. He already sent me his station info and my reply went to him. The calling station heard my beacon, and then used "TEST-LINK...." tag, which seemingly led to the connection without my approval. For me it is a VERY UNDESIRABLE behavior. How to disable this feature?

Thanks Irad for your explanation. Neither the "unattended links" nor the "I'm away" boxes were checked, so I assumed that only attended operation (i.e. operator's consent to the connection request) would be permissible.
