Station "Up Time" / Pathfinder

It would be handy to know the "Up Time" (duration a station is on line) especially when using the pathfinder tool. For example, when using the pathfinder tool if it listed the approximate duration that each station has been online. So when parking a Vmail, the stations that are online would be listed with an indicator that separates those stations that are just periodically online versus those that are online most of the time. Or better yet, a number indicating the % of uptime each station is online.

Periodically when I park a Vmail it gets stuck on a station that just periodically is online.

Thank you! Keep up the awesome work Irad! 73, Bret C / AC0AE - Kansas

There is not room for this data in beacons or pathfinder replies, which all use SL1/2 to maximize reach, but it might be a good INQUIRE option. When you connect a station, you will be able to query their recent uptime if they allow that. does this make sense ?

Canned Beacons

Perhaps have seperate Canned Beacon messages.

That is general beacons, such as

Message "Emergency chnging to EMCOMM Mode"

Message "Changing to 160m"

Through "Changing to 10m"

Message "This station closing down - unless called, in 5 minutes"

Beacons can not include text messages.

Maybe you mean broadcasts?

Why not a unified list for all. just simple to manage and less confusing.

Canned Messages - +

On the Canned Messages input window the Name of the message field on mine I see

The label next to the 'NAME' is either concatenated or not complete

Nam [ ... ]

should be Name [ ... ]

Kind regards

Canned Messages - Subject

When using Canned Messages can we transfer the Name of the message as the default subject.

Thanks for consideration

No need. Thereis a feature for that.

Look on this example for VarAC Wed:

<EM:VARACWEDNESDAY@GMAIL.COM,iradirad@gmail.com><SBJ:VarAC Wednesday Check-In>4Z1AC, Irad, Savyon, Israel, (HF)

Canned Messages - more

Can we have a second and even third tab of canned messages.

  1. Allowing for those with visual imparement make the Message window deeper, thus giving more view of the content.

  2. decrease th number visible on tab 1 ( perhaps to 8).

  3. Tab 2 to be less used but nonetheless important messages, to the operator at least.

  4. The Shortcut key could be Alt/F1.... for the tab 2 items

Thanks for considering.

A quick fix if you sometimes have problems with reading the VarAC UI: Get a tablet computer and install VNC remote control software. At least on my Android tablet I can enlarge the Windows desktop so I see a detail as large as I like. I routinely use that to do VarAC QSOs from my recliner, with BT keyboard and mouse. VNC even recognizes things like right mouse button or CTRL key that the host operating system (Android) does not know about. The part of the VarAC window I need to do QSOs can easily be read on a 10" tablet screen.

Beacon away/present

I believe it could be very good, if Beacons also “signals”, if the operator is away or present.

This would only make sense if VarAC could automatically sense somehow that the OP is around.

For example at my station this would not work: I use alert sounds for CQ, connect etc. to be informed. I am hardly ever in the shack, but hear the sounds for example in my home office. When I am inclined to bother with the hobby I switch to the VNC window or open my Android tablet to look at the VarAC window.

Quite some hams know that I have VarAC running on 40/20m most of the time and try to connect me directly for a quick chat or so. They know that I only react when I like to - this is hobby, not real life. But it has worked quite often.

You can do much more than most think with an "idle" VarAC station. For example I am a member of a small group of EU and NA hams that exchange comments about the previous night on 40m. For example I could lift my 40m dipole recently by 2 m. From weeks of observations we derived that this made my signal about 3 dB louder in NA.

Beacon Tool Tip - minor

There is no space between to------ seconds

The up to6 seconds here shoul be up to 6 seconds

Like I said minor.

I tried altering C:\VarAC\VarAC_UI_languages.ini line 263 but seems not to accept my change.

Telemetry Beacons

I have a bank of LFP batteries at home that have Bluetooth-enabled BMSes. I've written a utility for Linux that connects to them via BLE and collects their telemetry (voltage, current, SOC, etc). My utility connects to the APRS network (W2JKT-15) and sends telemetry beacons, but I would like to also be able to send telemetry beacons in VarAC. Maybe this isn't within the scope of the VarAC mission, but I just thought I'd ask if there could be a way to get that data? I could easily just TCP connect to the VARA modem and send a properly-formatted beacon, or perhaps it could be done via socket in the VarAC app? Any thoughts?

I will be starting to work soon on an API to VarAC while the first API I will develop is for Broadcasts. So you can automate sending broadcasts.

Message text not transferring to queue in 13.2.7

I've been away from VarAC for a while (regrettably), and after installing 13.2.7 I find that after typing text into the "new message" window and hitting "enter" it is not transferred to the queue and thus does not get sent.

Entering a VMAIL locally and then sending it works as it should, as does sending a path request.

I'm running the latest Win 11.

I can enable debug mode if necessary.

There's a small check box that says, "Enter to send", to the right of the "New message" window. Check the box and that will solve the problem.
