Editing Welcome Prompts

Couple questions! First, will there be a time when the canned Welcome Message will allow other tags besides <LOC>, such as <MYDT>? I'm in the middle of the ocean and a lot of mainland operators forget about the time difference where I am when looking for me :)

Also, is it possible to alter connect texts that prompt about EMAIL and AI use? Specifically, I'd like to make it more obvious that the AI command is "AI:" and not just "AI". I've had soooo many ops try to use my AI without the colon, get frustrated when there's no response and disconnect!

Thanks and Aloha! KH7JF

Beacon after auto band change & tune-tone

Irad:

Some of us are adapting the automatic frequency schedule and coordinating the schedule in our region between operators. To this point, we see benefits if VarAC would automatically beacon after the band change is done. The reason for this is so that the antenna tuner will be tuned for optimum performance on the frequency.

Also - as Don KM4UDX points out, his tuner needs a Tune/Tone for his tuner to automatically tune. So an option would be to also transmit a Tune/Tone after the frequency change to allow those tuners that need a tone to automatically tune.

Some of us are experimenting with a coordinated frequency schedule. We feel that a window of time on 30 meters may help transfer Vmails when QRM makes 40 & 20 meters difficult.

Thank you for the work and energy you and your team puts into making VarAC the most powerful digital network…

+1 to what Lutz already replied.

Beacons timer is reset on every band change and will fire right away (plus some grace time)

If you also enable Antenna tuner, it will automatically tune upon band change so the first beacon will be fired fully .

Using your own digipeater

Hi, newbie here. I have a (licensed) station, W3DK-2 and a (similarly licensed) digipeater, W3DK-10. VarAC won't let me use my W3DK-10 digipeater in a call to another station - e.g., K2BBL via W3DK-10, it says I can't use my own station to digipeat. W3DK-2 and W3DK-10 are different stations - W3DK-2 is an IC-705 and W3DK-10 is a TM-D710GA. Why is this disallowed? Thanks, Bob - W3DK

it doesnt even make sense to work through your own digipeater. as it adds no value to the process.

Digipeater is a nother VaraFM that you go through on your way to your detination that echos your packets. no logic in echoing your packets from the same modem.

Frequency Scheduler bug

Irad, I've finally had a chance to stress test the Frequency Scheduler enhancement you added in v13.2.7 with up to 30 times and freq changes.

What I have found is that if #1-#15 is entered, it works fine... meaning error checks work, "SAVE AND EXIT" works, and if I open the Frequency Scheduler again, #1-#15 is saved.

Unfortunately any entries into #16 - #30 are not saved, and if filled it appears to save but when reopening Frequency Schduler, #16-#30 are blanked/deleted/not saved.

Hello Bill. I can confirm it on my end but as it seems here 16-30 are saved in the file and are just not loaded when re-opening the scheduler... so additional save will delete them.

I also confirm the bug on the #11-#12 entry

I will fix it.

Thank you for your attention

One Drive path written to BBS path

One Drive overwrote my BBS path in my VarAC folder. I don't need One Drive and have uninstalled it. One Drive is dangerous.

Irad, VarAC rocks! As a net control station I could REALLY use more canned message fields. This would be a big help in running nets. Also attaching files to vmails would be GREAT! Thanks for considering.

Beware of Windows Updates, They Can Change Your VARA HF Settings.

I wasn't able to check in for VAR Wednesday on April 15th. My radio wasn't transmitting in VarAC. I also tried FT8 with WSJTX, and I wasn't getting anything. However, I was making contacts on SSB phone. It seemed that something changed even though I didn't change any settings. It didn't make sense to me.

The problem was that I forgot that I scheduled a Windows update, and the update changed the settings for my sound card in VARA HF. So if anyone else has this issue in the future try the following:

  1. Open the VARA HF app.

  2. Go to Settings.

  3. Go to SoundCard.

  4. Check your settings for Device Input and Device Output. Both of these settings were changed during the Windows update.

Windows automatically making changes is a major pain. Use SoundSwitch from GitHub. When your settings change, it'll put them right back.

Relay Error

I found another bug. I clicked on the “relay” button on the bottom right of the screen. The relay window came up, then I clicked on the call sign, the clicked “delete”. The program came up with an exception “index out of range”. There are 2 options, one to continue, the other to quit immediately. Both of the options work. The reason I’m having to delete it is because I have a contact that I have retrieved his swaying “async” message 5 times and I get the vmail, but his end never seems to realize I have retrieved it. I have no info on that issue. This notice is only about deleting the relay.

Thanks, K8DDD

Same here, using Windows 11. After confirming the window exception “index out of range” VarAC continue to run normal.

I tried to answer your CQ on 10M today several times. Your SNR was in the + levels so very strong. But you did not hear me to respond, did you see me try to connect. So as always, please provide more info on your setup. A screenshot of your VARA HF modem screen will be very telling as there is something wrong with your setup.
