How does one move away from the watering hole freqs? Is that scheduling setting
the only way?

If you want to move on the slot system use the slider which will move you up or down a slot (750HZ apart).
You can also use your VFO knob of course but make sure your enabled CAT frequency read option so VarAC can track your frequency.
