Have Vara and VarAC installed. On my IC 7300 and I can receive and send. My issue is when I first start VarAC, or when I change frequencies, or Tune, the radio gets stuck with the TX LED on. It looks like PTT does not "let go". There is no power output but the radio is still in transmit. If I open up Setting/Rig Control this condition clears as soon as the setting window opens. While in settings the PTT On and PTT Off buttons work correctly. I have downloaded the most up to date CAT control files but no luck. I tried OmniRig and things got worse so I uninstalled that again. VarAC version is V12.0.0 VARA is V 4.8.9. Running on Windows 11. At this point I'm in a little over my head. Any suggestions appreciated.

Yes, naturally, RF signals can interfere with electronic devices... We use RF chokes and other methods to limit the impact of RF on electronic devices.

I have a 705 that will occasionally do this if my portable antenna is too close, or the SWR is too high. RF is coming back to the radio through the braid. I used a longer coax to distance the antenna, and placed some ferrite beads on both ends of the coax and that helped.
This is rare and usually indicates that something is occasionally interrupting the COM port traffic.
VarAC has a mechanism to protect you from this which is found under the VarAC ini file:
Turn it to on and VarAC will try to close your PTT every minute
SafetyPTTOffEveryMinute=OFF
In addition - as suggest here by others - setting a limit to PTT on your rig is also a good practice. I own a IC-7300 and mine is enabled on 3 minutes. its called TOT - Time-out timer:
Press the MENU button.
Select SET.
Go to Function.
Scroll down to Time-Out Timer (TOT).
Choose the desired time limit (can be set in minutes).
Options are Off, 1–30 minutes.
Press EXIT to return to the main screen.
My 9100 exhibits similar behavior from time to time. It can occur even when receiving a 'false' connect attempt; a response by me will yield a 'no release' of xmit and the rig will just draw amount of idle current, and the rig will overheat to the point of the fan kicking in. I release the xmit by engaging the Transmit button.
If I'm not in the shack paying attention, rig gets very warm.
I've examined both recommendations noted above about DTR/RTs selections. Mine has always been on 'L'. I'll reselect mine to 'H' and watch for futures occurrences. -K0ION
While waiting for a response I began to play with some of the CAT setting. One of the things I tried was to change the DTR and RTS settings from H to L. My problem seems to have resolved. Don't really know what I am doing but not going to argue with success. Looking at my WSJTX settings neither DTR or RTS settings seem to be a factor when CAT is selected. Maybe someone who understand all of this can educate me? Always interested in learning.
Hello Walt,
I have different settings, please try...
