Broadcast a search for an email gateway

Suppose we have a SHTF event. I hop on VacAC and I need to send an email. I need to wait until I see a beacon with an email gateway. It would be nice to send out a broadcast searching for an email gateway.

Hi Manuel. I understand where you are coming from... and I have been thinking about this myself. the blast radius can be big with a single transmission can send a broadcast storm on the CF... For EmComm teams we have something like this the ability to trigger "check-ins" which are calling out for all EmComm member to send a beacon (while those with GW announce it) but it is limited to small teams aways from the CF.

As the alternative is to stick around for a few minutes and see who is beaconing - its a small price to pay to keep the CF clear with minimal traffic.

I think this would be a neat feature as well. I was going to request it and found this post. To reduce CF congestion, could you implement it similar to CQ, where a request is made on the CF with a slot number. The requestor then goes to that slot for 2-3 minutes and stations would auto QSY to that slot and use a broadcast message to that user with their email gateway info. Similar to PATHFINDER you could make it optional if a station wants to respond to these requests, and also have some minimum SNR to meet to respond (e.g. -12dB). This would reduce CF messages. Also it would allow for non-beaconing gateway stations to respond.

Interesting concept Steve. this may also be a good approach for PATH-FINDER which clogs the CF sometimes. I will give it some extra thought... Thanks for your suggestion.

Great! Please test it also for single-channel setups that do not QSO (e.g. FM and SAT).
