HI, it would be great if VarAC supported File transfer, binary and text and also Picture transfer ala SSTV style, between 2 stations! 73 de Demetre M0SUY/SV1UY
I think a personal mailbox, NOT PMS or BBS, has continued utility. While file and data transfers are an important addition, especially when used for EMCOMM, don't forget that a large majority of people will be using VarAC as an everyday QSO tool. The ability to store more than a few sentences in a "mailbox" to be read later would be a real asset! The way things are now, once VarAC is exited, there is no easy way to review any information that was left for you, not to mention that you'd have to scroll back and back and back to make sure you didn't miss something that was left for you. 73, Joe
With VARA's robustness, file transfer is a must for EMCOMM. Would recommend a standard zip file format for transmission too. Just like how you can send files with FLdigi using FLwrap.
Yes, file transfer would be great. I would suggest just plain binary file transfer; no need to distinguish between files vs pictures, etc. Maybe pop up a dialog box with an estimate of the transfer time and a "Are you sure?" button,.
One additional suggestion, could you implement "streams" too, so that there can be CONCURRENT chat and file transfer, in both directions. Right now, Jose's VARA Chat either allows chat or file transfer, but not both concurrently. Maybe "tagging" the foreground versus background streams, so that it can remain compatible with Jose's Chat. Maybe negotiation with Jose to extend VARA itself is in order. I don't know the right/best way to allocate bandwidth between foreground/chat and background/file but as a first cut, foreground ALWAYS has priority.

I believe that file transfer is far more important than MBOX, not only for EMCOMM but for everyday use! Nobody uses MBOXES today really!

I vote for that too... it will make it also useful for Emcomm. 😁👍🏼
I would second the request!
This would make it a power tool!
