The Ham Radio Control Library–Hamlib, for short–is a project to provide programs with a consistent Application Programming Interface (API) for controlling the myriad of radios and rotators available to amateur radio and communications users. See https://hamlib.github.io/ for more information.
Incorporating HamLib would eliminate the need for OmniRig and allow supporting most current amateur radio transceivers.

This would be a great step forward!

Many other applications like JS8Call and WSJT-X apparently use Hamblib. This also came to my mind today when I noticed that OmniRig does not support PTT for my old IC-706MKIIG.
So @irad d, maybe you could save development resources by integrating Hamlib?

@Stefan Meurer Upcoming version V3 will support RTS/DTR PTT which will help hams with older rigs to use PTT. Hamlib is further down the road.
@irad d This would generally work but especially for me not because I am using other software like JS8call parallel and this scenario needs a shared access to the PTT. My solution is using hamlib daemon rigctld with network API on localhost port 4532.
It would be great to see the support for this!
I appreciate you work, thanks!

After examining Hamlib closely - I decided I needed to create my own CAT control mechanism. Released in V3.4. So Archiving this request.
CAT control is great, regardless of the method used. Works perfectly for me on either an ANAN or a Flex.
