Dear VarAC Forum,
I am writing to report a bug I have encountered while using the VarAC server program with the IC-7610 transceiver. The issue relates to the automatic filter selection and its impact on establishing radio connections.
Issue Description:
When using the VarAC server program with the IC-7610, the software automatically switches to Filter 2. However, if this filter is set too narrow (which is often the case in the default factory settings), the VarAC program switches to "busy" status and cannot establish a radio connection.
Workaround:
I have found that the program functions correctly only when Filter 2 is set to a much wider bandwidth. However, this solution is not documented in the user manual or widely discussed in online resources and videos related to VarAC.
Suggested Solutions:
1. Implement a filter adjustment option within the VarAC program to allow users to set appropriate filter bandwidths.
2. At the very least, include a clear warning in the user manual about this issue, advising users to set Filter 2 to a wider bandwidth when using the IC-7610 with VarAC.
This undocumented behavior can be frustrating for users, especially those new to the software or the IC-7610. Addressing this issue would greatly improve the user experience and prevent potential confusion.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and any potential solutions you may provide.

Thorsten DG3KBQ
Hi Thorsten and thank you for bringing this to our attention. Please note that every user can set the desired filter to be triggered in the 7610 by changing the VarAC_cat_command.ini file. As you already noticed, the filter #2 is the default one but a simple configuration can change it to any other filter and it is in your hands. This is well documents both in the file, and on the website.
