yaseu ft 897 with varAC

only new to varAC still learning am using ft897 yaseu can anyone tell me what rate should i be using 4800, 38400

and finally what mode should i have radio on digi or usb

and other setting would be apreciated and i can only use varac for ppt congurations as i cant get the radio to respond to cat configurations

Baud rates on the radio and VarAC (or any program the connects via CAT for Freq and PTT) must match, usually the faster the better.

For any Digital mode if your radio has a dedicated Digi Mode (D-U, Digi-U, Digi-USB, etc) them you really should use that as it should disable detrimental features for digital modes such as Compression, NR, etc.
