I am fairly new to VarAC 7.3.0 VARA HF 4.7.7 and learning the software and functions. When I am in a QSO and the other party is "typing" and sending I notice my TX will turn on for a few seconds then off. I do not understand why my IC-7300 would auto TX when the other party is transmitting. I have sourced the manal and looked at the Settings to see if I need to make a change. I understand the TX during RX may be normal not sure...Mick N3OJP

"Check to see if your audio announcements are being transmitted."
I did mute all sounds on main screen not sure what other audio settings I should be checking as you suggested. Making progress thanks to all comments.
My aplogies for getting back to the comments so late I had cataract surgery this week and takes a while for eyesight to settle.
The Mute all Sounds box was not checked so I checked the box. I was working with a group last week and we were playing around with the sounds particularly the ALERT. Setting up Alerts and testing.
The ACK makes sense during transmission. The other day while in a QSO I was disconnected and if I remember the message read someone else took over the channel if that seems correct. So the periodic ACK transmission from rig maintains the slot for the most part if I understand unless someone slips in.
The manual can be a challange so all your comments helpful.

Check to see if your audio announcements are being transmitted. A quick easy test is to click the checkbox on the main screen that says "Mute all sounds" If I'm on the right track we can help you sort out the audio settings.
There are "heartbeats" to keep the link alive, you should see some of these statuses up in the status windows. Remember this is a full ARQ mode.
