I have a very different impression: FT8 is disliked for the unability to communicate. I met several hams on varac which changed from FT8 for that reason. Had very good QSOs. 73 de DJ0CHE
Yes for some but it is not a blanket statement for all ops is my point. I into my 4th QSO on 10M and it is before 8AM. Theses are real QSO's where we chat back and forth. So there are certainly many real QSO opportunities to be had.
In some fashion you are right. This morning I was in contact with Reunion Island on 10m (FR1GZ), well, it was a ping contact with fairly good reception (-04 db), however, I was wondering where all those other HAMs are active. FR1GZ was the only 10m station visible on psk reporter.

Dear Gary, HA3CCs point was that there is still a certain FT8 mentality here whereby HAMs prefer on clicking through a QSO rather typing.
Just daybreak here but already have had QSO's on both 10M and 15M VarAC.
For some ops but not all of us. Plenty of real QSO opportunities, I mostly stay on 17-10M
