Good day, Can someone please tell me how to connect my ICOM-728 to my computer to enable me to use VARAC? Which Radio connector to use and which computer connector to use? Where can I get this cable, or do I have to make it myself? Any guide on this? Thank you.

Moi je possède un ICOM 7400 et j utilise signal link sl1 et aussi pour ke FT8 sans problème ...mais pour vara je n arrive pas a parameter mon ICOM 7400!!!
I'm using a DigiRig to connect my Kenwood TS480. And like it alot. The connection to the computer is via a USB port. Then there are two cables that go to the radio. One for CAT control and the other for audio. Once you install the driver on your computer it converts the USB port to a serial port. I find it very easy to use.

HI Stephan Oberholzer As many "older" radios, ICOM-728 has no built in audio interface, so you need to have an external soundcard interface. Newer radios have a USB interface for both CAT commands and audio streams. if interested check QRZ.com for my email address and send me a e-Mail. I probaly have an external interface I don't need anymore. BR Remo es HB9SHD
As a IC-728 is a budget minded radio, you might consider a more economical soundcard modem to start. I would recommend digirig. They have the cable you need also, so general costs end up being under $100.
You may want to contact them to verify you exact configuration will work. While I like the digirig line (I have two) they are more prone to interference on the USB line than my more expensive WestMountain RigBlaster.
Digirig Mobile (Icom CI-V) - $49.97

I checked the RIG in manuals. This has no build in digital interface. You must have use signalink or SCU-17 Interface. With yaesu the SCU-17 is recommended With ICOM SignaLinkTigertronics
