Does anyone who's used VarAC for FD or WFD have any lessons learned/advice to share?
In particular, I'd be curious to know how the slots worked out. Were they always full? Did people QSY to non-standard frequencies?
All I've done to prepare so far is copy my usual config file twice, renaming one to my regular setup and another to FieldDay. Then of course I changed the callsign, location, and other obvious stuff, and created just a couple canned messages:
CannedName1=FD ANSWER
CannedMsg1=<HCALL> PSE CPY 4F NTX //nQSL?//nDE <CALL> K <SND>
CannedName2=FD 73
CannedMsg2=QSL <HCALL> TU 73 ES GL <SND>
I'm purposely not adding <DISC> in the 73 msg because I prefer to manually hit that button lest the counterparty wants to add something unexpected at closing.
Thoughts?

Hi, I normally use VARAC just as it is, and call CQ FD or POTA so people know. I also will use the broadcast feature if I am off on a slot. But my main reason for using it is for EMCOMM, and EmComm exercises.
