I am looking to start an EmComm exercise with the Skywarn Brunswick County NC spotters and County Skywarn coordinarors. VARAC is well suited for use with Skywarn! Since we are a coastal community and have to deal with tropical systems in our area every year, it seems like a good idea.

Thank you W4JRG for the insight - I have a group of new VARAC users so I do want to incorporate different HF bands, some folks are tech class, so I am going to try it locally on 10m (we have had some success doing that) but I will need more people on VARAC to make it more interesting. Working on it! I already have started the planning for the exercise I want to do in May. But not make it too complicated so new users can jump in and get some training/experience. I do appreciate the ideas! Ever little bit helps. 73s Dean
I concur. Using the broadcast feature allows for the All Hands messaging capability. Using the Alert feature adds value with timely information. EmComm Direct Messaging group trains using this in a similar fashion. I recommend you run simulations for different bands during the 24hr cycle, and those in fringe areas. Map it ahead of time so it is known. Broadcast is simple but has no reciprocal feedback capability.
