As with direct VarAC CAT control, if you need to tweak a CAT command for your specific radio it is user fixable by simply editing the ini file that VarAC or OmniRig used.
And yes VarAC will directly control radios via CAT, which is the preferred and best way to do it. VarAC supports legacy RS232 CAT as well as TCP/IP CAT. In VarAC settings you will see the radios supported in the pull down selector, or take a look at the up to date ini file here https://www.varac-hamradio.com/rig-control-file
And if you have a CAT supported rig and for some reason it is not in the ini file you can simply add it if you have the CAT commands.
Bo, like I can read on the QRZ.com page is that you have an IC-7300, if so, then please read on the page 124 of the VarAC manual in English This info is from K5CG

On radio ICOM IC 7300
Connectors - USB/sens
A local operator had the same issue with his Kenwood HF radio and OMNIRIG. We resolved the issue but cannot recall at the moment.
Is it possible to directly control your radio through CAT control in VARAC?
Same here , whats the fix please ?? for me I have loaded the app then manuallly switched back to USB-D on my Yaesu FTdx101MD. Gary VK4OO
Same on my Kenwood TS-480SAT. Try using ordinarie USB instead, not USB-Data. This works for me.
Hi, you need to check the settings on the radio, if I understand correctly it's ICOM ic-7300, go to the settings menu
Same problem with my IC-7300.

It would be helpful to state the RADIO and MODEL
I think I recall some older Icom radios doing this (746 maybe)
so just manually put the radio back in USB-DATA mode and see if it stays in USB-DATA mode.

As Irad noted we cant help until you help us by telling us what rig. If you do not know how to modify the ini file we can help. NC3Z
Same using IC-705 and omnirig
You did not tell us what rig you are using.
If your rig does not have a USB-D mode so change it to USB under the VarAC settings.
