Hi. Just found VarAC and it seems cool. However, this afternoon when testing I would connect to other hams, and then within about 30 seconds all I hear is the other radio sending modem tones and expecting a response from my computer, but my computer stops keying PTT and VaraHF waterfall freezes. CPU and DB meters are still active. Suggestions?
I had exactly this issue and solved it with a better quality USB cable to the Radio (an FT-991A) with some extra RF chokes clipped to it. I found that the problem was worse on my new Microsoft Surface Pro computer than on my elderly Dell which seemed to bet rather better RF screened.
