I am trying to setup up VarAC with a IC-7300, and the Freq busy light is on all the time, and if I try CQ or anything else, it says waiting for freq to clear. I would appreciate some help. Thanks in advance.
I had this same problem with a yaesu FTDX. I was able to solve the constant busy by varying the filter width. There is a sweet spot around 2000 to 2200. But adjust and watch and the busy light will go out and the program works.
After VarAC had functioned flawlessly for several months, I had this problem too for a few days, but after turning off the NOTCH, NR and NB the problem was solved.
This seems to be the first big hurdle to getting this system up. I fixed it by using the SFT function in my Yaesu 891 rig. I do not know what other problems that caused however.
I tried setting both to 1500 as you suggested on my FT-891, but it made no difference. If I changed the PSK frequency to 1500 from 1000 or shifted the IF up 500 Hz, the noise band would move into the red-lined area, but then other things didn't work, like the TX signal. I'm baffled. I have no trouble using Winlink with VARA HF or using FT8, but VarAC has me baffled.
I'm not sure how you ended up with that receiver noise UN-centered. Make sure you have your "twin Bandpass Filter" turned off, and have a 600 Hz filter set in the 7300. You can do this using one of the filter settings in the VarAC_cat_commands file that runs when you first start the program.

On my 7300, I set a filter to 500 Hz, and choose the option in vara-hf to allow 500 Hz connections, and it's. Centered automatically
You have weird notch taking out all the data. That is the problem.
What filter width are you using? Here's what VARA-HF should look like with the filter at 600 Hz. 73, Joe
