Help Please!

I want to use VARAC but my technical knowledge isn’t that good.

I have a Yeasu FT857d, SCU17 interface into the radio data port and a MAT Y200 tuner into the CAT / LINEAR port on the radio.

I therefore cannot use CAT control because the port is taken up with my tuner.

What do I require to set up VARAC please,is it FLRIG?

If so can someone advise me of the settings I need to get up and running please.

FLdigi does appears very daunting to set up.

Can anyone help me with some advice about setting up FLRIG.

As mentioned my rig is an FT897 or FT857D.

I cannot use the CAT port on the radio as it is taken up by my auto tuner .

Both my Mic and speaker ports are different at 8 and 9 but FLRIG asks for the port of my radio?

I am sorry but some of the things you are saying are not making sense. I dont have any of these but I did download the manual. As I noted above you will not have CAT control for FLRig to work (or VarAC CAT control).

For the SCU17 to work with a 857D for CAT and Audio it must be configured as below (from the manual). The DATA port is the audio path and the CAT/LINEAR is your CAT control.

Per the manual the SCU17 will install 2 Com ports, one for CAT control and an optional one that can be used for keying which you do not need as you will be using CAT keying. One will be listed as Enhanced and the other as Standard. You want the Enhanced port # as that is your CAT control port.

It will also install a CODEC for tour audio (in and out) which will be used in the VARA HF settings.

Again, all this info came out of the Yaesu manual I downloaded.

If your 857's CAT/LINEAR port goes to something other than your PC or SCU17 you are dead in the water for CAT for both VarAC and FLRig.

Thanks for your reply again and sorry to be a nuisance.

If I set up as shown with the CT62 cable for CAT, I cannot use my auto tuner which plugs into the CAT port on my 857D.

It all would work ok without the tuner but I need to be able to tune my antenna when changing bands.

It would seem I can’t have CAT control and use the type of tuner that I have.

I hope this makes more sense.

If your tuner requires that CAT port then you have an issue doing this.

You "can" use VarAC without a CAT interface but that is not very desirable. And yes FLRig is an interface path that works very well.
