@wd4kav, Please clarify what you mean by "VarAC does no logging". The following text suggests that VarAC logs QSOs to an ADIF file and that logged QSOs can also be published automatically.

@wd4kav Exactly! A well-meaning HAM operator that uses auto-logging may call me while I'm away. Everyone is doing what they are supposed to do, and still VaraHF would register an unattended QSO.

@wd4kav If I understand your proposal, even if I disable auto-logging when I'm away, it would not prevent the connection-initiating side from auto-logging a QSO with me.

I agree that it's nice to get SNR reports from unattended stations. However, VarAC is for HF Chat, not a replacement for WSPR. Do you have a suggestion for a VarAC behavior that will keep that SNR exchange for "I'm away" stations while preventing unattended QSO collection?

@oe3fqu Were you able to use the IC-7200 for FT8 with OmniRig? I also noticed that I had to select the "Accept 500 Hz connections" in VARA HF -> Settings -> Vara Setup...

The IC-7300-DATA profile should have been named IC-7300-RTTY 😉 I created an IC-7300-FT8 profile that also works with VarAC. To use this profile 1. Open IC-7300-FT8.ini 2. Right-click and Save as "C:\Program Files (84)\Afreet\OmniRig\Rigs\IC-7300-FT8.ini" 3. Re-/start OmniRig 4. Select IC-7300-FT8 from the "Rig type" drop-down list.

Currently, VaraAC allows for unattended QSO collection by running with an active "Auto log QSO" and inactive "I'm away". I suggest that 1. An "I'm away" station will not participate in the automatic SNR (RST) exchange. 2. The automatic QSO logging will be done only if both sides have sent RSTs and some other messages. It seems to me reasonably aligned with HAM Radio conventions, and have no practical impact on attended communication.

It looks like there is an agreement that VarAC should be able to change the transceiver frequency. Currently, this can be done using custom frequencies that each user need to define in advance. A smoother user experience would be to use "Accept QSY" and "Reject QSY" buttons in the existing QSY dialog. If the "Accept QSY" button is clicked, the appropriate frequency will be set in the transceiver as if it was selected from the frequencies drop-down list. The advantages: - The SW sets correct QSY frequency - The frequency change is controlled by the operator - No need for every user to edit the predefined frequencies - The dialog can avoid showing the new buttons if no CAT control is used DE 4X5ZS

It seems to me that the request is to support non-English text. Currently, non-English/non-ASCII characters are shown as "?" on the receiving side. For example:
