I would like to elevate the priority of this suggestion... I'm going to try the region 7 QSO party contest in the morning (7QP.org). And I am in region 7 (W7BTM). So I want to call something like "CQ DX" or "CQ 7QP" (unlike FT8, we are not encumbered by a 13 character limitation so the possible uses of a custom CQ message are much more attractive...) AND: Making it easier to use VarAC in a contest will drive interest and help it grow! How to we encourage the developer's of Vara HF to put more effort into this? After all we paid good money for that tool and VarAC IS free!

I have the same question. Several people have said it's easy after using PSK Reporter, but I don't see where to enter a call that is not in the beacon list or calls list. And I can't send a message other than CQ without being connected.. Also, I noticed that if I tune to a slot, Vara HF will decode the messages which shows me the call signs, even though those call signs are not in the Beacon or Call list. So let's say I wanted to connect with one of those call signs after they were done with their QSO... how do I do that?

My enthusiastic Elmer, who is about half my age (I'm 66), got me into both FT8 and Vara. I think the answer is to promote this mode with any younger hams you happen to run into. The old curmudgeons who disdain digital modes are dinosaurs, and many of the older ones still struggle with computers. That's fine if they just want to do CW and SSB, so let's direct the focus on the generation who grew up with computers. That's where the growth will come from. PS: Today is just my 2nd day using Vara! And I have to say that I was nagged into buying the $69 license for Vara HF. I am frustrated with that because VarAC is the meat of the mode and deserves to be compensated. I will donate. But $69 for Vara HF is a bit high for some younger ham's especially since FT8 is "Free"....
