I still think it's more important to prevent new users from accidentally doing things that cause trouble for other users (and themselves) - perhaps have a screenshot showing how to enable the voice notifications on a screen that the users have to interact with, like where we enter our names and callsigns. I also happen to detest all notification and non-content noise from computers and mobiles, and disable any of it as soon as I discover them, so my idea of ideal experience is probably different from a lot of users' 😏

Humble suggestion as new VarAC user: set the VarAC notifications and narrations to OFF by default. I imagine many other users don't have an external speaker connected on their radio PCs and would have no idea that these notifications are even a thing, much less annoying everyone else on the band.
