In Schedule a VarAC QSO
This is a very niche request, but would anyone on the USA East Coast like to attempt a cross-Atlantic (1200-800mi) Meteor Scatter 'QSO' using VarAC, with a VP9 / Bermuda? I have been successful in prior years using JT9-G 'Fast' digital modes at 60W during late night (23:00 to 2:00 UTC) with some successful contacts (to my surprise), as I don't have 6 meters capability. It might be manageable if another station had a 3-el 75-100W station on the other end (Or a few up and down the coast), and if we can have transmissions every 5-10 seconds. Given the high data rate for the beacons and CQ/Connect requests, it shouldn't be an issue length-wise to decode packets if they are successfully bounced off the meteor trails, as at 10M there's about a 5 second window for propagation before the path fades. As we're not using the even/odd automatic cycling with WSJTX, we'll need to coordinate transmit times to allow room for transmission and reception. If anyone has any knowledge of VARA error correction of partial packets, or the avg data rate at 500hz (or, if we can use 2000Hz for even faster repeating transmits) then I'd be happy to hear or plan with those who are free and interested Sincerely, Dom, VP9NO
