Just installed v9.1.0 It will not function if I list my call sign as WØLEN, even though is shows that on my screen when I send a beacon It does not accept the slashed-zero as a valid call sign for amateur radio

How does VarAC determine the Time for Log information? Is it deriving UTC based on local time at the user's location (i.e.: Time Zone)? For example, let's say the user is in AZ - which does NOT go on Daylight time. Will the VarAC Log time be 1 hour off in deriving the UTC for log entries? Thanks! 73 Lyn, WØLEN

VarAC v8.0.6 (latest version) does not log to the ADI file even though it is set in INI as: ADIFLogPath=C:\VarAC\VarAC_qso_log.adi In fact, my VarAC has not logged to that file since June 12, 2023. Instead, it logs in non-ADI format to a new file, VarAC.log (which is mentioned nowhere in the INI file). So there is no usable ADI file that can be imported into other logging apps, such as QRZ.com What's the story? Thanks. 73 Lyn, W0LEN

The EDM Group completed a very active nationwide exercise on Saturday, March 25 utilizing VarAC as a "call-up" tool to locate and activate EDM Target Station Team members that might be available for HF P2P Winlink messaging after a major disaster had rendered the Internet, Cell Service, repeaters, and virtually all other infrastructure useless. We collected over 100 pages of logs from participating stations and will be analyzing the resulting data for future planning. One thing I noticed is that after several hours of operation, VarAC no longer reliably keyed the transmitter. It would drop out of transmit mode before starting the "send" sequence. When switching to other software (noticeably WSJT-X) the problem disappeared. Any thoughts? 73 Lyn, W0LEN

Is it possible to add a brief message to a Beacon? And how about selecting one of the Alerts to add to a Broadcast OR a Beacon? I'm looking for quick ways to send specific EmComm alerts. Thx, Lyn W0LEN

The sound feature in VarAC is very handy, but is much louder than it would have to be. It uses the default sound device, so runs at whatever level that is set to. Most often that device is used for playing downloaded or online audio, perhaps with video, which may require a higher level. It's probably not feasible to put a separate level control on the audio in VarAC, but would it be possible to specify a sound playback device other than the Windows Default device? I have 2 monitors, and I prefer VarAC and the VARA HF window on the left screen (secondary screen). So that's where I have it. But when I close the App and reopen it, the VARA HF window obligingly opens on the Left monitor as trained, but the recalcitrant VarAC app insists on opening in the default position on the right screen. I believe this should be a simple fix ... please ?? All other apps (and I have hundreds) perform correctly on this score. Thanks! Lyn

VarAC (v6.3.3) shows a 60 meter "channel" frequency of 5.355.000 KHz, which would produce a "data" frequency of 5.356.500 KHz - illegal for use in the US (it's 2 KHz low for Ch 3 - the closest channel). What's the plan to fix that? Thanks, Lyn - W0LEN

New user with VarAC v5.3.1 and VARA HF v4.6.3. Windows 7 Pro 64 workstation, IC-7300 (CAT control). App works great - but loads in a wierd fashion. The VARA HF modem window comes up, then disappears, then comes up again, then disappears, then comes up a third time and the VarAC windows opens. Everything works well from that point on. VARA.exe is in the C:\VARA folder, and VarAC is in the C:\VarAC folder. I use VARA HF regularly with Winlink and have done so since VARA Day 1 with great success. VarAC has not been in my wheelhouse until now. I did use Vara Chat for a bit, but abandoned it in favor of JS8Call ... way - back - when. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks. 73 Lyn, W0LEN
