i moved back to 14.110 and i also set it to ignore CQs from the suffix -9, which stops it from responding to beacons and winlink bots

ok, i just added rig control for my server, it listens for CQs on 14.105 like all the other stations, but it calls back on 14.105 as well if you connect, it'll immediately ask you to move to 14.110, and if you stay at 14.105 it'll time out once you disconnect, the server will move back to 14.105 again

my server is already connected to the vara instance, assuming you mean over normal TCP. my program doesn't use the KISS functionality, if VarAC is somehow able to connect and use that while my program is using the command and data TCP ports...?

I personally don't recommend any ALC at all. Turn your radio to the maximum power allowed, then adjust your soundcard so the actual power transmitted is where you want it. If you absolutely want it pegged at the maximum power output possible, turn it up, and you'll notice when you hit that limit ALC will start to turn on to keep you from overdriving the rig. From there, don't allow ALC to get above 1/3 or the loss in signal quality might cause annoyance or slower connection speeds. But even below 1/3, it does affect the quality of your signal, so just to make sure everything is clean (and to protect your finals), I would drive the rig to about 50-75% max power output.

You can't change this in VarAC or in the VARA modem. Other than adding an artificial delay on the audio (which would move the beginning cutoff to an end cutoff) I don't see any real solutions to this problem.

This is a very robust and useful mode, I am also surprised at the lack of normal QSOs that are happening. This is my favorite mode, after JS8Call (which has also just turned into a bunch of automated stations) and Olivia. I even created a web access server using VARA mostly because of the merits of this mode. Maybe we should advertise VarAC more, talk about it with other hams, bring it to their attention. I don't know how many people actually know about VARA and all the chat capabilities it has when combined with programs like VarAC.

No, just the normal packets. The closest thing I found was PTT ON/OFF, but that doesn't necessarily mean that a message has finished sending. BUFFER isn't reliable either because it isn't sent that often, I tried checking for "BUFFER 0" but it didn't work

Ok thanks. By the way, how do you determine when a message has finished sending in VarAC? Sometimes multiple outputs get sent in the same message and it breaks things, I'm hoping to find a way to wait until the first one has finished then send the second one in a separate message.

Along with the other comment, I also did some manual frequency/slot changing so i could call CQ and also wait for a reply on 14.110 when I was testing.

My server is back on 14.110 MHz. I encourage anyone with an HF rig that isn't being used much to fire up the server and let it rest on 14.110 with mine, the more coverage the better!
