I'm really enjoying the new functionality, but it does highlight any laziness in system configuration - I'm sitting on 14.105 and hearing a synthesized female voice announcing all sorts of events that are taking place a long way away. Someone has not set their Windows default output device properly and seems to have VOX enabled on the radio - their narrations are being broadcast round the world!

Now, the real icing on the cake would be to have an option for those of us with dual receiver like an FTdx101 or IC7610 to configure VARAC to keep an eye on all those other slots so that it can tell us which are free! 😎

The majority of us have internet on the PC running our digimodes. How about a simple centralised server - could be a web api hosted here - that VaraC can query periodically to become aware of other temporary calling frequencies? Those that don't have internet will just use the default calling frequencies in the application and will be no worse off than they currently are... Martin

Again, fully accepted! I guess the problem is that VarAC has adopted VARA as the transport layer and is beginning to build up a following which would be good to continue to increase. There is virtually zero activity on Olivia - conversational chat modes do not need the 100% data integrity that is required for email...

Understood - but it is a shame. I understand that any such function would require support in the transport layer. I think the lack of it is going to limit the acceptance of VarAC - I really like the application, but I'm beginning to look for other conversational digital modes because I'm finding that QSOs beyond Europe are just too difficult to complete. As the SNR drops to -15db or lower, the data rate falls painfully low and the transport layer falls back to endless sequences of NACK and retry until the connection drops because the retry limit has been exceeded. I really think that VarAC needs a more error-tolerant option! Martin

Agreed - my 2m antenna is quite poor - particularly to the west! Is there anything like an agreed frequency for 2m Vara?

Will certainly take a look - 20m is not a good band for me, so I would love to see the range of frequencies used for VarAC increase. Martin

Agreed - I often leave the PC running on VarAC in the shack and the alerts can be very loud. Windows 10 does allow you to override the system volume level for individual applications and I've done that - which works well enough.

It would also be nice if we could create a list of messages waiting to be sent and VarAC gave us an alert whenever it sees a beacon from a station for which we have a waiting message. I guess that the connect and transmit could be automatic, but that might be too ambitious at this stage.
