IMO, ALE is a military not a Radio Amateur mode, and it's aim is to help dumb Radiotelephone operators that know nothing about Radio waves propagation, like most military Radiotelephone operators. Radio Amateurs are not dumb Radiotelephone operators because Amateur Radio is a hobby and it is all about self teaching and about knowing what we are doing while communicating. Like Irad said, the Frequency Scheduler in VarAC does what we Radio Amateurs need.

I think now that VARA-KISS has a DCD mechanism and Jose is actively deveping it, an EMCOMM group should ask him about allowing SL1, SL2, SL3, SL4 and SL5 speeds to be selected by the user in VARA when KISS MODE is activated. Jose needs some convincing, but an EMCOMM group could probably convince him more easily than an individual.

All you need to do is be there on time, go to Slot 15 by moving the Slot Slider under the frequency indicator all the way to the right, and hit the BROADCAST BUTTON on the right. Type your message you want everyone to see and hit BROADCAST AND CLOSE. After the BUSY indicator goes off, VarAC will send your BROADCAST.

Hi Albert, I use both JS8 and VarAC since they were 1st launced and really I believe that these 2 modes along with PACTOR, PACKET and APRS are the best DIGITAL modes worth bothering with! I believe that all administrations in all countries of the world consider Radio Amateur Frequencies to be used in a 1st come 1st served basis by Radio Amateurs in the bands where we are the primary users! Nobody has the right to say that this Frequency belongs to Network105, or any other group because it doesn't! Radio Amateur Frequencies are not like Commercial Frequencies where the user pays for their assigned frequencies and of course they have the right to claim ownership in a juristriction. Radio Amateur Frequencies are free for every licenced Radio Amateur to use provided they listen 1st and if the frequency is clear then they can use it the way they see fit, of course within the rules of law in their juristriction. Nothing more nothing less!

Maybe Irad could use a random timer after the busy indicator is switched off so that not all stations TX their answer immediately after there is no traffic! This is done in PACKET RADIO where we have the Persistance and other parameters.

Hi, I personally find what you are proposing too complicated and unnecessary when all you need to do is to create a "TKS QSO, HPECUAGN, QSL INFO @ QRZ, 73" kind of CANNED MESSAGE when you desire to go QRT. The operator at the other end of the QSO should respect this and send you the same greetings and your short QSO is over and probaly the other end is happy he/she had a QSO. If you would like to continue, you could just continue ragchewing and don't be the 1st one to send the 73 CANNED MESSAGE. Wait for the other guy to send his 73 CANNED MESSAGE and you are in the long QSO bussiness alright. If the other end does not like this, then tough luck, tough ..., we can't please them all! Hi hi hi!!!

Slots 13, 14 and 15 can QRM PACTOR operators badly and they have been there for many years before VarAC. Also Slots 14 and 15 have been used by WINLINK operators for many years before! I think they should also be in Red! Why should Network105 have special treatment? 73 de Demetre SV1UY
