All: I'll be testing my portable HF setup on VarAC this week. I'm using an ICOM-705 and a Surface Go tablet. The antenna is an End Fed halfwave sloper with the apex at 25 feet. The combination works well on CW so it should do a nice job with VarAC. I'll be active on both 20 and 40 meters beginning tonight (November 2) starting at 22:30z. See pics below. Tony -K2MO

Greetings all: I have a Xeigu X6100 that I use for digital mode portable and I noticed that the CAT control switches from USB-D to LSB when USB-D is selected. Is there a way that I can modify the INI file to correct this? Any idea where that file might be?

All: I've been testing my Flex 6600M with the latest versions of VarAC and VARA and I haven't found any latency issues. The modem seems to work fine with a range of filtering including narrow filters which cause an increse in latency. The latest version of SmarSDR was used along with DAX during testing -- the OS is Windows 10/64. I measured the modem's shortest TX/RX switching delay at roughly 100ms and that seems to work fine with the Flex. I suspect those who are still having issues with Flex transceives might be experiencing OS system latency -- maybe someone can shed some light on that possibility. All: It might be a good idea to mention SDR latency in a message that appears during the VarAC installation process. I've run into several hams using Flex and other SDR transceivers who were not aware that the issues they were experiencing with VarAC were due to latency. I've noticed that the TX/RX collisions that occur due to latency are usually detectable by the receiving station working the ham with an SDR and I usually send an email to let them know what the potential issue might be.
The other alternative would be to have Jose modify the VARA modem. Tony -K2MO

I think most would agree that a QSY reminder would help alleviate congestion on the calling frequencies. It seems most are not aware of this practice and it will only get worse as VarAC becomes popular. A simple approach might be to add a reminder in the form of a banner that scrolls across the bottom of the GUI? Tony -K2MO

All: The fIle transfer feature seems to work flawlessly when testing off-air from PC-to-PC under Windows 10/64. Image files appear within the app window which is very cool.
