500Hz vs 2300Hz for calling CQ

    in VarAC discussion forum

I have noticed many stations using 2300Hz mode for calling CQ. For keyboard chats 2300Hz is way overkill and takes up three 500Hz slots in the passband. Is 2300Hz really needed for chats? Of course for file transfer 2300 will be quicker, but again you will be potentially QRM'ing more than one 500Hz QSO.

So maybe we need to establish some QSY freqs to use 2300Hz so as not to QRM other VarAC 500Hz users??

I completely agree. There is practically no benefit to use 2300 bandwidth for keyboard to keyboard communications and as already pointed out, it QRMs other 500 QSO's taking place on adjacent designated frequencies.

We also need a way to switch from 500 to 2300 and the other way around without disconnecting first!
